The Path to Success

A good today happens to be Saturday of this recording , so hopefully , you having a great day , you had a good week . Anyway , they say , if you woke up in the morning , you woke up with your mind that you are blessed , and so we're ahead of the , we're ahead of the curve there . So , anyway , what we're going to talk about today , michael Cain ? Well , we're going to talk about how long does it take to be successful ? Essentially , I'm talking about time , but I am no doubt . But I want to work at the other side of it , the input . The success is the output , right , the culmination of effort , hard work . So , yeah , we are talking about time , but more so the work that goes into it is is the top . So , how long does it take to be successful ?

Let's back up a bit . What's your definition of success ? Ah , see , yeah , there's the million dollar question . Really , how long does it take ? What does success mean to you ? If you ask one person success , they say well , success means I have five million dollars in the bank after taxes . The other person says success means to me that I'm content and happy with what I'm doing every day . I love to get up in the morning and do what I do . It's not really work because I love it . I've never heard that one before . Right , if you truly like what you're doing , love what you're doing , it's not really work . Okay , have you defined what success means to you ? That may be a whole other podcast . What does success mean to you ? And you know , dig deep here , not just topical , but the stick deep . Does it mean I'm driving around in a Bentley ? Just read about Bentley's . Today in the UK , the Queen Mother's Cleaner of England's Elizabeth's favorite car , I believe so is a Bentley , rolls Royce , lamborghini . That determines your success . That shows that you are successful Really . So does material possessions equal success to you ? Okay , no condemnation , no guilt trip . If it is , you have to flash that Tiffany , diamond or Rolex , then so be it . That's what makes you feel successful . There's a new podcast right there feeling successful or really being successful .

Because , as you know , a lot of people buy stuff to look good and buy fake stuff to look better . So , in fact , a millionaire next door was written by Dr Stanley , I believe years ago . There's two or three books and his study revealed that the wealthiest , the most affluent , didn't flaunt their wealth . You couldn't tell by the car they drove or the house they lived in . One great example is Warren Buffett . Warren Buffett , as you know , is arguably the most successful investor of all time and he's 90 something young and he lives in the same house , drives a car , has same similar habits than you know on his younger side , before the massive wealth set in . So the millionaire next door highlights the fact that you know maniares , where and where jeans regular on luxury items , no Rolex , no diamond necklace , not walking around with gold bars in their back pocket . You'll never know who they are and the folks that you do see flash it well , can't judge a book by his cover , but perhaps they're and we know they're not the most wealthy , as in rich .

So that all said what does success ? How is it defined by you ? And it's all over the place the responses . So I would first define that my national measurement , extra benchmark , whatever elements of being rich . Notice how I said being rich and not feeling or looking rich . Don't want to be those people because they're just blowing their money in one day , the day of reckoning when they're broke , don't have it , or they wasted all their lives for stuff , and you know it is what it is . It's a matter of fact , not pointing fingers . And so how long does it take ?

Well , it does include the timeline , does include , outside of the definition and the particular elements which define your success is the specific vocation or pathway you're on . You have a business , did you ? Or you have a nice paying job , or do you have to go to school ? Like to be a doctor ? You have to go to medical school . It's no way around it . You want to be an attorney ? You have to pass the bar . You may not necessarily have to go to law school , but you sure have to study for years to pass the bar exam , and so there are licenses at stake here that you may have to obtain , which are built into the timeline , unless you're like a doogie . Was it Houser ? Remember that ? I think they brought that back in a remake when this boy I don't know how he was 12 , 13 , 14 years old . He was a doctor . He graduated with his bachelor's and advanced degree , a master's degree in medical school as well . I mean , he was a genius . And so outside of that happening . Am I saying you're not a genius , but there's certain protocols you have to do in complete to get to that level . Now let's say you don't have to get licenses and stuff and well being in the right place in the right time .

A lot of people call that luck . You can call it whatever you want . The harder you work , the luckier you are . Have you heard that the harder you work , the luckier you are ? So you're put yourself in these positions . That opportunity comes your way . That has a lot to play into too , and people that coach you and mentored you A lot to play into when you will be successful .

And success can be defined in baby steps . So , for example , my ultimate goal is to get $5 million , however after taxes , but I would say in baby steps . When I hit a half a million I would say that's pretty successful . And then another milestone a million , another success . So I don't think it's just a one-shot thing , think it's an incremental thing that crawls forward , that happens to you . It could be just a one-swing or one-hit wonder . Excuse me , but I would say these incremental steps , these milestones you hit , are reason to celebrate success . Whether you agree or disagree , that's how I see it , you celebrate that moment in time and it doesn't mean there will be other greater moments . But I think to celebrate that victory lap , take the victory lap where you hit these other smaller goals and success , I don't think has anything to do with what industry you're in , because if you look at the Forbes 100 or look at these magazines or these shows that have the richest , wealthiest people , successful people all time , it's all over the place what their businesses made and invest in . People made money in almost everything or anything you can imagine .

Now some I believe would probably be , could be arguably more difficult than others , maybe oversaturated with other companies like mining companies , and maybe say , okay , do we really need another , this or that ? I don't want to pick on any particular kind of company or industry or sector . But you say , well , it's already a hundred of these people in a two-block radius , why do you need 101 ? Another one more ? And then you see that one more is the most successful one after it's all saturated . So you know rhyme or reason . It's about the input to working hard . I know , you know people work 100 hours a week to be successful . Will the 100 hour a week person or entrepreneur rich to be person , will they be more ? Is it guaranteed they'll be more successful than the person that only works 40 hours a week ? That's not guaranteed . Not guaranteed . But you would think on the surface , if you work , put longer hours into what you do , you would be more successful . Maybe that will speed up the process . Probably won't hurt , but which could be .

Another podcast is life work balance . Are you killing the dream of having a happy family ? Are you already married or have a significant other ? Do you already have kids , especially small kids , which could be really detrimental . If you're not , don't spend time with your family . So a lot of people regret that . You know they're married on the outside , but they married the job and and you know the family kind of gets screwed in the process and not having mommy and daddy . So so there's trade offs , perhaps not necessarily balance , but trade offs that you make in order to be successful .

But I would think I would say tread wisely and don't over encumber your life . For example , okay , let's say you want one kid , five kids or whatever , and you're just and also you're a newlywed , and then you're trying to put in 100 hours a week at the office . Well , it's a good indication that marriage is not going to last . You didn't dedicate sufficient time , personal resources , toward keeping a happy spouse , especially if you have kids . And hey , you're not going to get married , you have kids and hey , you're not putting in your weight and you say , well , I pay for everything . That's not good enough , it really isn't . Are you paying your kids off ? You know , hey , daddy can't be with your , mommy can be with you . So you would ? You give them 100 bucks to forget it , and so they don't complain .

There will be regrets , especially on the death bed or later in life , if you essentially destroy your family . So is it that important to you ? And I would say , why have five kids if you can't be with them ? Why have kids if you know you're going to have to spend 80 hours , 100 and and and it's important to you ? Now , if it's not important to you that's what I'm saying Doesn't matter , it really doesn't , it's irrelevant , move point . I don't care Whatever , and a lot of people may not say it that way , but you say it with your actions .

You spend your time where your heart is . You spend your time where your mojo is right , where your target is . That's where you spend your time , dedicate your time . It's with your actions , not just saying , oh I love you , well , show me so , and not to go on a tangent , but all of these things play a factor in how long does it take someone to be successful , and it could be six months , it could be 30 years to reach the level of success that you intend or plan , depending on your definition . Again , so to me I would look at the smaller wins as success and keep and , for me , families , very important , although in my what I currently do now is time consuming , but I always make time and it's not as much time as I would like , but I always put that emphasis of where my heart is and that's really where it is . Where is your heart Now ? There are episodes and the podcast . I got like four or five podcasts I can do based on this topic here About success . How long does it take to be successful ? Don't know , but go for it .

If your heart is to be entrepreneurial , start your business or get into a field which requires an excessive amount of demand on your time , then I think you should plan your personal life with that in mind and be honest to the significant other of where your loyalty is . I think who wants to say that , well , they're going to find out anyway , aren't they ? Might as well be up front . So BS , see , a lot of people do BS stuff and get caught and get messed up later . You might as well know , going in and be up front , be honest with people . Other podcasts there you go .

So , anyway , all I say is drop a little outline of action plan of how you want to run your life and with whom . Okay , like minded person who gets it when you're not fighting , in conflict and in turmoil , in regret . So it's important that you consider all these things in your quest for success . Hey , they both called episode quest for success . So , ah , or the longer alone does it take to be successful ? But anyway , I hope you got some benefit out of the show .
